Tearful Speech of the Day: Great Britain’s Andy Murray was reduced to tears during this heartfelt speech in front of an equally misty-eyed Wimbledon crowd. Murray, who is playing fourth fiddle in a murderer’s row of tennis talent these days (Federer, Djokovic, Nadal), fell just short in his bid to become the first British male in 76 years to hoist the winner’s trophy at London’s All England Club. He has yet to win a Grand Slam tournament, but after moments like this, people are probably rooting harder than ever for him.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Andy Murray, I felt a loyalty to him as a sportsman of Scotland and appreciated his talent but his lack of emotion to this point always made him difficult to root for. You could never really live the highs and lows with him if he didn’t appear to feel them himself. Until today. What a truly lovely, heart felt moment to witness. He charmed a nation today.
